Here is something the industry does not explain well: your manufacturer warranty covers the shingles themselves. If a GAF shingle fails from a defect, GAF sends you new shingles. They do not send a crew to put them on, and they do not cover flashing, underlayment, or the guy who did the install.

The mechanical workmanship warranty covers that install side, and the term depends on the roof system: 4 years for shingle systems, 2 years for torch-down, and 5 years for TPO. The material warranty is separate and follows the manufacturer or supplier terms.
