Beyond the Roof

We’re known for roofing. We build more than that.

Vulcan is a licensed general contractor. Roofing is the product we lead with because it’s how most customers first meet us — but the same license, insurance, and project-management discipline cover the rest of what we build. This page is for the homeowner or business owner who already trusts us with their roof and wants the full picture.

What we build

Residential and commercial projects we routinely take. If your project isn’t on the list, start a conversation anyway — we’ll tell you honestly whether we’re the right fit or point you to someone who is.

Home Additions

Second-story additions, mother-in-law suites, primary-suite extensions. We handle foundation through finishes — permits, framing, mechanicals, drywall, paint. Average project: 10-16 weeks.

Full Remodels

Kitchens and baths down to the studs. We coordinate architect, cabinet maker, countertop fabricator, and tile crew on a single fixed-bid schedule so you have one point of accountability.

Basement Finishing

Unfinished basement to bedroom / bath / rec room / home gym. Code-compliant egress windows, waterproofing integration, HVAC balancing. Usually 6-10 weeks.

Decks, Porches & Outbuildings

Pressure-treated, composite, and hardwood decks. Screened porches, pergolas, detached garages and workshops. Everything permitted and inspected.

Commercial Build-Outs

Tenant improvements in retail, restaurant, office, and medical spaces. Demo through turn-key: MEP coordination, ADA compliance, health-code pulls, final inspection.

Light Industrial

Warehouse interiors, flex-space conversions, loading-dock modifications, mezzanine installs. Scoped and priced like our commercial roofing work — predictable and on schedule.

Why the roofing crew can build the rest

Same license, same insurance

Our GC license covers full-scope residential and commercial construction — not a separate entity, not a subcontracted partner. Our general-liability and workers'-comp coverage applies to every project type.

The same project-management discipline

The process that ships 2,400+ roofs on schedule is the process we use for a basement finish or a commercial build-out. Weekly owner updates, milestone photos, fixed bid.

A vetted trade bench

We don't pretend to self-perform electrical, plumbing, or HVAC. We work with the same 4-6 licensed trade partners on every project — crews we trust with our own name on the final inspection.

Two project paths

Residential

Additions, remodels, basement finishes, decks, detached structures. Our residential PM process gives you one accountable contact, a fixed bid, and weekly photo updates from the job site. Average homeowner project: $35K-$250K.

Scope a residential project

Commercial

Retail, office, restaurant, medical, and light-industrial build-outs. We coordinate MEP, ADA, and health-code requirements on a single bid, and we work evenings / weekends when the space has to stay operational during the build.

Commercial capabilities

How a project runs

Same four-stage process we use on every roof — scaled up for full-scope work.

STEP 1

Free scoping call

We come out, measure, listen. No pitch. You leave the meeting with a clear sense of whether we are the right partner for your project — even if the answer is "probably not."

STEP 2

Fixed-bid proposal

Line-item scope, materials list, schedule, payment terms. No "we will let you know when we find something." Change orders are priced up front before work begins.

STEP 3

Build on schedule

Weekly photo updates from the site. Same PM runs the project end-to-end. You have one phone number, one email, one accountable party.

STEP 4

Final walk + warranty

5-year workmanship warranty on everything we self-perform. Punch-list closed before final payment. Every permit signed off.

Straight answers

Wait — you're general contractors? I thought you did roofing.+

Both. Vulcan is a licensed general contractor; roofing is the product we lead with because it's how most customers first meet us. Everything else in this list is work we've done under the same license for years — we just don't plaster it on the homepage.

Why isn't this front and center on the site?+

Because when someone searches 'roof replacement Saint Louis' they're not looking for a generalist. They want a contractor who lives and breathes roofing. Leading with roofing makes us easier to find for the people who need us most. This page exists for the homeowner who already trusts us for their roof and wants to know the rest.

What project sizes do you take?+

Residentially: $15K (basement half-bath) to $500K (addition + full remodel). Commercially: $25K (small tenant improvement) to $2M (full interior build-out). Below those thresholds we happily refer you to handymen we trust — a $2,000 job isn't a good fit for our overhead.

How is pricing different from roofing?+

Same philosophy — fixed bid, itemized scope, nothing hidden. Roofing is easier to price in 48 hours because we can measure from satellite. Full-scope construction takes 1-2 weeks for a real bid because we're pricing trades, materials, and permits.

Do you work outside Saint Louis and Chicago?+

For full construction scope, we stay inside our two home metros. We will travel for roofing (our satellite pricing works anywhere) but construction work requires boots-on-ground supervision we can only deliver locally.

Tell us what you’re building. We’ll come out, scope it, and give you an honest read on whether we’re the right fit — no pitch, no pressure.
